Carroll Robotics Team Excels at First Tournament of the Season

On November 9, 37 teams from North Texas competed at Carroll Senior High School at the first VEX Robotics tournament of the season. Student-led teams designed, built, coded, and drove robots that stacked cubes in towers or dropped cubes into goals in a game called Tower Takeover. Teams also presented their designs to judges with both engineering notebooks and team interviews. Carroll Robotics teams performed very well in both the tournament and judged awards, qualifying 4 teams for the state competition!

“It is very rewarding to be able to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their STEM learning in a dynamic and competitive atmosphere,” said Leah Schwedler, Carroll Robotic Sponsor. “The high level of student enthusiasm and incredible parent support resulted in a highly successful event for our robotics program.”

Team 7110X reached the tournament finals an team 7110F won the prestigious Design Award. Teams 7110D and 7110Z outperformed all other teams in the Robot Skills portion of the contest. These teams advance to the state competition in February. Four other teams earned tournament awards: Teams 7110D – Think Award; 7110B – Judges Award; 7110X – Sportsmanship Award, and 7110S – the Energy Award. The teams will compete next on December 7 at Greenville High School and then again at Carroll Senior High School on January 25.
